Oh yes I remember.
A square peg being forced into a round hole.
A ring placed on a finger.
A happy face when I wanted to be sad.
When I wanted to scream and step outside your box.
How many times have you ‘shoulded’ me?
Bet you don’t even know what that means.
Do you?
I do.
You can take your version of ‘pretty’,
And scatter it to the wind.
I’m a leaf, but not of your plans.
See me fly.
See?
A child of autumn.
I fall where I choose.
Don’t hold my hand and scribe my words.
I’m colouring outside the lines because I can.
And because I couldn’t.
Maybe you should watch.
And see what freedom looks like,
Instead of trying to cage something that does not belong to you.
This woman is no woman at all.
Because to be a woman is slavery.
And I reject that tyranny.
Do you see now why I do what I do?
Listen to me.
