You make me doubt all my tomorrows but I have no choice but to be brave.
You are a most special man.
You’re clever.
You provoke feats of strength I never knew existed in me.
Like my work.
You believe in me.
You drive me on.
Which makes beating me ok.
Doesn’t it?
It’s only now and then I guess,
When I really deserve it.
That cup of tea left beside our bed each morning,
It erases all.
The note you left in my lunchbox?
‘I love you my Sam’
I smile gingerly because – the bruises.
Inside and out.
I am a cat swung around the room by its tail,
Then cuddled.
It’s alright.
We are fine.
And you won’t do it again.
You said so.
I’m not really trying to get away.
I promise.
Clawing, scratching, twisting in your arms.
I like it here.
I do.
The fear is not so bad.
I’ve got used to the dread when you open another bottle.
I know the pursuit will come.
I’m braced for it.
‘Who is that you were talking to?’
‘Where have you been Sam?’
‘Why were you so late?’
It’s all ok because you hold me so tight.
You love me so well.
In the dark.
In the spaces between strangulation and rage.
Eyes closed,
I feel you breathe.
And the fear in me wishes that you didn’t.
A small voice tells me you will kill me some day.
If I do not leave before.
Normally I tell her to shush and not be so stupid.
But I lost consciousness this time.
And I believe if our neighbour hadn’t come,
There would have been no more me.
I know it.
So I run.
I am gone.
It is time for me to be FINE.

This is another very revelent topic of abuse and mental torture hidden behind closed doors.
Your words echo many a trapped and fearful person suffering in silence.
Hoping it will go away, hoping it will end.
Praise in abundance for writing about this lady S. 🙏🙏🙏
Let’s hope that such ones escape and create new lives. The lives they deserve, without fear.
As always, lovely to hear from you Paul. I hope today finds you well.
Mistress Sheba
No one should have to live in fear. Neither adult or child should be denied the right to laugh and smile.
Indeed let us hope that out society listens to the silence and offer the support many unfortunately need.
I watch out the window here at Dudley howling his chesty gales. It would be wise to stay indoors but duties bring me outdoors for a while. Stay safe and i really appreciate our connection here Mistress Sheba. Xxx
You stay safe too xxx
Thank you. I appreciate the support.
Wow. Powerful stuff.
There is no excuse for domestic violence – ever.
No-one should fear being behind the doors of their own home.
Agreed. Unfortunately it’s a big problem, which is why raising awareness is important. Thank you for reading.
It’s never fine. It’s not love, coercion and violence has to be routed from relationships and marriages.
Agreed. Thank you for reading.
