Happy Monday to you, whoever you are. It may not start with sunshine. It may not start with love. It may start with a grayness that is as unwelcome as a November fog. But the potential is out there for everything. Reach back into your mind and grasp the memory of the best day you ever had. Hold it out in front of you and ask yourself, was it expected? Did you start that day, knowing it would outshine all others? I’m going to suggest you did not.

This is life. One big surprise, day after day. Full of potential. Another segment. A big fat pregnant belly of twenty four hours. Who knows what she will bring to birth? And each day before this has been your coach, readying you for what comes next. You are the captain of this ship. Sailing to new lands and distant shores. You grip the wheel, set your sails to the wind. Because you must be ready for anything.

And you are.

This morning could discover you, an apparently feeble soul, protesting the prospect of another week. It could find you castigating yourself for the failures of the last seven days, the last three hundred and sixty five or more, beneath the solace of a comfortingly over washed and faded Ikea duvet. It may be a sisyphean task to swing your legs out of bed and place them on the floor. But nothing will happen if you stay there. The dice will not roll itself.

So David Livingstone it. Jack Sparrow it. Get out there and thrust your flag into the sand. Find a way to see the good in it, whatever happens. Be the prospector, panning for gold. Look for that glitter. Look for the glint. Because I guarantee you it’s there. It might be the smile a stranger gives. Just because they saw something in you to warrant it. It might be those few brief moments of solitude, while your newborn sleeps. Or the fact that you handled a problem without losing your shit.

But whatever the case maybe, Monday’s aren’t all gray. They aren’t all black and white either. They are two dozen hours for you to make your mark. To experience things that those no longer with us can. It is time gifted to you to be anything. Named after the moon (moon day), it is the satellite around which the rest of the week revolves. So make Monday yours.

Own it.
