Is it any wonder we wander through life,
Each of us carrying parcels of insecurity?
Some smaller.
Some bigger than others.
From the moment of birth,
Consider those words wrapped in raggedy string,
And the brown paper of ‘oh she’s so perfect’,
‘He’s adorable.’
No pressure then.
Attach yourself to another human,
Be it parent, child, employer or spouse,
You represent them now.
You are the face of ‘insert name here.’
Don’t be the supermodel who causes shame.
Or the rock star who has a melt down.
All the world looking on.
Whisper whisper.
‘Isn’t it dreadful?’
‘They never were any good.’
Don’t be the guy who can’t make his marriage work.
Or the teenage girl who has put on weight.
Put on your happy face.
Your pretty face.
The face of success.
Choose a Johari Window.
Or…
Perhaps try being yourself,
And telling the world to go to fuck.
